Lanzarote fighter Hecher Sosa qualifies for the UFC

Hecher Sosa, the MMA fighter from the Los Alonso barrio of Arrecife, won the most important fight of his career last night, just days after losing his father.

Hecher beat Mackson Lee from Brazil by a unanimous decision in the Dana White’s Contender Series earning a place as the fifth Spaniard ever to compete in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting championship).

It’s the latest chapter in a story that has seen bantamweight Hecher win the Spanish amateur championship three years on the trot before a glittering professional career with a record of 14 wins to one loss.
