Counterfeiters arrested in Arrecife

Four people have been arrested in Arrecife as police swooped on “the largest manufacturer of counterfeit designer products on the Canaries”

Investigations began in July when containers of clothing were detected arriving at Arrecife’s docks. The garments were then taken to a warehouse in the capital where specialised machines applied well-known brand names, such as Adidas, Nike, Puma, Lacoste, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Michael Kors, Christian Dior, Armani, Balenciaga, Gucci, Versace, Fila and Tommy Hilfiger.

Police claim that the fake garments were destined to be sold on the Canaries, and that the operation had been under way for at least seven years. Almost a thousand boxes of counterfeit garments were confiscated with an estimated value of €8 million.
