Over 5,000 reverse osmosis membranes have arrived at Lanzarote’s Díaz Rijo Desalination Plant. They will allow a 10-15% increase in drinking water production.

The desalination plant forces sea water through the membranes at extremely high pressure, filtering out salt and other minerals which are then returned to the sea.

The membranes were manufactured by the LG company in South Korea and the contract for their acquisition was worth €2 million.

“We’re making all efforts and devoting all resources to tackle the water cuts that Lanzarote and La Graciosa have suffered in recent years”, said Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort.
