Arrecife Ayuntamiento has given the go-ahead for the renovation of the Casa Amarilla, one of the capital’s most important buildings.

The council’s heritage committee approved then project yesterday, as well as the replacement of the garage door of the San Ginés parish building.

The Casa Amarilla is the old headquarters of Lanzarote’s island government, the Cabildo, and its distinctive greenish yellow tiles have been showing signs of wear and tear for a while.  The building is now an exhibition space, and recently opened an exhibition of photos of Macronesia, the Atlantic islands to which the Canaries belong.

Maciot Cabrera, Councillor for Urban planning, said “These are firm steps towards protecting our historical heritage.”
