San Bartolomé Mayor Isidro Pérez has announced that the GR-131 footpath in San Bartolomé is once again open to walkers.
The council has come to an agreement with a landowner who had closed off part of the route near Montaña Guatisea, the large, pale volcano that lies between San Bartolomé and Montaña Blanca. “To solve the problem, the section of the path that ran through the interior of the property was modified, moving it to the eastern and northern edges of the property,” Pérez explained.
The GR-131 on Lanzarote is a 73.5 km footpath that stretches from Órzola on the island’s northern tip to Playa Blanca in the south. It is part of a longer GR-131 route that traverses all seven of the Canary Islands.
