Arrecife Council has reported nine people in one morning for leaving items of furniture and other large items alongside rubbish containers.

Evidence was captured by security cameras and included footage of vehicles stopping by the rubbish containers to dump bulky items. The vehicles were then identified by their registration number.

The nine cases add to over a hundred that have been brought against similar fly-tippers this year, Cleaning councillor Jacobo Lemes said “We will not tolerate uncivil acts that damage the city,” he states, and reminded citizens that “We have a free home collection service for household goods and recycling centres available to all citizens.”

“There are no excuses for abandoning furniture, mattresses, or electrical appliances in public spaces,” he concluded.
