The Cabildo will spend €10 million on renovation and maintenance works at the Zonzamas recycling centre, many of which are aimed at reducing the risks posed by fire and floods.

The projects include, among others, the construction of a new unloading bay, the adaptation of the waste compacting area, the paving of roads, the expansion of landfill leachate and rainwater collection networks, improvements to the fire detection and extinguishing system, and the installation of a more modern and efficient power generator module equipped with automatic analysis and regulation systems.

Cabildo president Oswaldo Betancort said, “This project is necessary not only to comply with the law, but also for our responsibilities to the environment and future generations.”
