Playa Blanca beach closes due to high levels of contamination

Bathing was forbidden at Playa Dorada in Playa Blanca yesterday after high levels of “microbiological contamination” were detected.

Samples taken from the beach on Monday contained E. coli and streptococcus bacteria, and the Ayuntamiento has suspended bathing until the cause of the contamination has been identified and new tests carried out. This procedure suggests that the beach is also likely to be closed today.

In the meantime, the council has recommended that locals and tourists try other beaches such as the Playa Blanca town beach, Playa Flamingo or the string of beaches at Papagayo.
