Call for police station at Lanzarote airport

Police union Equiparación Ya has called for the establishment of a police station at César Manrique airport, Lancelot reports.

The union claims that a National Police base at the airport would permit agents working there to be independent from the main station in Arrecife. “They would not be able to re-allocate staff away from the airport,” said Juan Carlos Fuentes of the union.

Fuentes also alleged that flights are leaving the island without the necessary checks being carried out on passengers. “I don’t whether it’s because of the rush, and I hope everything is being checked, but because of the focus on arrivals, some flights have left without being checked.”

If passports are not stamped on departure, British and other third-country nationals may not be able to show how long they have spent within the Schengen zone.
