61-year-old man still missing on Lanzarote after three days of searching

Three days of searching has failed to locate a man, who disappeared along the coast of Orzola while gathering seafood.

Juan Acuña, aged 61, disappeared on Monday evening after setting out to hunt seafood on a rocky shore near Playa las Cocinitas in Haría. The alarm was raised by his wife when he failed to return on time.

The 61-year-old, known as “Pepe the gravedigger” for his work at Teguise cemetery, was wearing a dark grey bathing suit, a navy-blue lycra T-shirt and an apron to gather his catch.

An intensive search involving dozens of people, a rescue helicopter and drones has failed to locate the missing man.
