Fines issued for illegal dumping in Arrecife

The security cameras that Arrecife Council installed to monitor rubbish containers have already resulted in 16 fines for illegal dumping.

The cases relate to the disposal of furniture and white goods, which is forbidden in waste collection points intended for domestic use and recycling. 

Three of the cases relates to businesses, which were found disposing of their waste in or near containers intended for domestic use.

Mayor Yonathon Lemes said “We’re not going to put up with this any longer. These fines show our commitment to a cleaner city that is more respectful to the environment.”

Lemes reminded residents that a free service existed to collect unwanted furniture. “We urge citizens to use this, rather than leaving their rubbish in the street, affecting everyone.”
