Famara is a very unique part on Lanzarote – one of the loveliest and most enchanting places on the island. And it’s wild, free spirit is captured by the jewellery of Tania Candela, who creates unique, beautiful items under the name Famaraspirit.
Originally from Peru, Tania travelled the world for several years before arriving in Famara, where she knew that she had found her home. After settling on Famara she dedicated herself professionally to her passion for jewellery making.
She started making jewellery at the age of 17, and later attended classes with a renowned goldsmith. In 2018, after years of dedicating time to motherhood, Tania decided to bring the creativity back into her life and studied at the Pancho Lasso Art School in Arrecife before setting up her Famaraspirit workshop.
Being aware of the impact that mining has in her home country of Peru, Tania is very environmentally conscious and uses recycled silver and gold and avoids the use of newly mined gemstones, preferring to use antique finds to re-purpose the material.
She finds her inspiration in the exquisite gold jewellery of the Inca Empire in Peru, where crafters used the same lost wax casting methods that Tania employs today.
Tania has many sources of inspiration when creating her unique jewellery and a large part of that inspiration comes from Lanzarote’s shores. Sea Urchin shells are a regular motif in her jewellery items, as well as coral and lichen.
In the world of fast fashion, Tania takes her time to experiment and archive the best possible result to ensure the longevity of the item she creates. Her work is absolutely unique in Lanzarote, and it is her love for nature that draws her to an artistic form of expression.
A GIFT LIKE NO OTHER
It’s very easy to walk into one of Lanzarote’s many souvenir shops and pick up the first thing on the shelf. However, those mass-produced items aren’t unique nor are they made here on the island.
Tania’s jewellery, on the other hand, isn’t made quickly in large quantities – it’s made by hand or in small batches with careful thought and a lot of care, taking inspiration from Lanzarote’s landscape and marine life.
If you’re looking for a special Lanzarote inspired gift to give to a loved one, there’s no better place to look than at Tania’s wide range of jewellery items at http://www.famaraspirit.com/shop/
Or, alternatively, you can find Tania at all of Lanzarote’s regular markets such as the craft markets at Costa Teguise on Friday evenings, and at Playa Blanca’s Marina Rubicón behind “La Casa Roja” restaurant on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and can be found every Sunday at C/Herrera y Rojas 1 in the big Teguise Market.
