The Rojillos (the reds) begin the season at home on Sunday 8th September with the aim of improving on their second-place finish in their previous two seasons and top the table to clinch that one and only guaranteed spot of promotion to RFEF 2 (fourth tier). Ian Lane reports.

Our home stadium, the Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife, is under renovations with a new floor and turf being laid. This means that the Rojillos will be playing at the stadium in Tías (Campo de Futbol Tías) at least until Christmas.

Whilst our home stadium is undoubtedly the best on the island, Tías has been our second home successfully on two other occasions. In 2003, UD Lanzarote spent several incredible months there and went on to win the league in Spain´s third tier along with a great cup run. In one particular match a young Sergio Ramos playing for Sevilla B could do nothing as the Rojillos were rampant in a 4-0 win. Many fans wanted to remain at Tías but Arrecife is our home.

There are some drawbacks; one of those is the capacity of around 1000 seats and some standing room. However, extra seating may be brought in for some big games. One of those big games will be a Copa Del Rey match against a team from the Primera Liga or Segunda A, though not Real Madrid or Barcelona but possibly in the next round.

Last season the average attendance was around 800, if the club can maintain this and add a few more, the atmosphere in a packed Tías stadium will be electric as it has proven before.

The stadium is situated next to the Tías Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) and is easily accessible by car with parking on a Sunday simple and nearby. From Puerto Del Carmen, a taxi from the Old Town is around 6 Euros and bus number 34 drops you near the ground. For more information how to get there from Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca etc go to the website (details below).

Season tickets are available from our shop in Costa Teguise at CC Nautical, Local 25 (behind Café Oppa) Mon-Fri 10am to 1pm and also Wednesdays 5-7pm. In Puerto Del Carmen see David Timmons at The Irish Harbour Bar or Brendan at Dicey Reillys both in the Old Town and open in the evenings (please pay in cash as money goes direct to the club). Alternatively pay by card at the club in Arrecife.

An adult season ticket is €75, or €95 with club membership and a pensioners costs €50 or €65 with membership. A Goldcard holds many advantages including entry to the stadium on the Copa Del Rey match 30 mins early, entrance to all home matches and B team, 50% discount on a Cup ticket and other benefits. An adult Goldcard costs €120 and a pensioner’s €100.
