Lanzarote’s Olympian gymnast, Ray Zapata, sadly failed to win a medal in the men’s floor exercise at the Paris Olympics yesterday.
Ray managed to secure seventh place after a solid routine which saw him penalised for stepping out of the blue zone during a diagonal exercise.
The winner was the Philippine gymnast, Carlos Yulo, while the Israeli Artem Dolgopyat, who controversially deprived Zapata of gold at Tokyo, took the silver. Bronze went to British gymnast Jake Jarman.
Ray Zapata said “I’m fine, I can’t complain. I could have fallen on my butt, but I didn’t. It takes some guts to be the first on the floor in an Olympic final. I think I performed well, and my kids have seen me compete.”
