Arrecife mayor, Yonathan de León, has denounced a recent act of vandalism and called for citizen collaboration to help put a stop to future acts.

Arrecife has seen an increase in vandalism of public spaces recently, and mayor Yonathan de León has highlighted a recent incident in which public bins were vandalised.

In the post on Facebook, de León wrote “There are “some people” who do not want public spaces to be recovered and Arrecife to have a better image in its squares and urban furniture. We restore those spaces (and their furniture) and a few days later they are painted over with graffiti… A society is reflected in the behaviour of those who and they act with a lack of civic mindedness. I invite that when you see “people” damaging public property, to videotape it or take pictures, and to and send them to the Local Police of Arrecife to apply the sanctions foreseen in the ordinances. There are many more of us who want to see our city move forward. The actions of few causes damage to all of us.”
