This May the Lanzarote airport recorded the lowest increase in traffic of all the airports in the Canary Islands, with a total of 663,867 travellers. However, in the Canaries as a whole the islands recorded an 8.6% increase in airport travellers in May.
Canarian airports recorded a total of almost 4 million (3,934,369) travellers this May, which is 8.6% more than May of 2023. Of the total number of travellers recorded last month, 3.9 million were commercial flights, of which 1.8 million were domestic (9.9% increase compared to May 23), and 2 million were international (8% increase).
Traffic by airports
Gran Canaria Airport registered the highest number of travellers with 1,094,567, 9.6% more than in the same month of the previous year.
It was followed by Tenerife South Airport, with 976,706 passengers, an increase of 12.4% over May 2023; César Manrique-Lanzarote, with 663. 867 (+2.9%); Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 574,798 (+10.6%); Fuerteventura, with 471,459 (+4.6%); La Palma, with 117,514 (+9.7%); El Hierro, with 25,418 (+5.1%) and La Gomera, with 10,040 (+7.4%).
January – May totals
So far this year, Canarian airports have registered 21,795,270 travellers, 9.9% more than in the same period last year.
Of the 21,635,981 commercial travellers, 8,315,913 travelled on domestic flights, 8.8% more, and 13,320,068 travelled on international flights, 11.3% more than in the same accumulated period of 2023.
