Popular Arrecife restaurant Pizzeria Gigi closes

Pizzeria Gigi in Arrecife, an institution among islanders, is closing down after 25 years in business.

For over 25 years, the little pizzeria opposite the Club Nautico on Arrecife’s seafront has offered an almost unchanging menu of freshly-prepared pizzas, with locals regularly queueing for a table. Most customers have their favourite Gigi’s pizza- the Gazette’s editor, for example, has eaten huge amounts of their Napoletana.  

According to Lancelot, the closure is because of the retirement of owner Gianluigi “Gigi” Melis, but his brother Angelo is “seeking premises near the restaurant to continue selling fresh, handmade pizzas to the public.
