A Tinajo football club has apologised to a young referee after she was insulted by parents during a match between 10–11 year old children.
The match between Palmeiras de Costa Teguise and Tinajo ACD took place on Saturday morning at Costa Teguise football pitch and resulted in a 5-4 victory for the home side.
During the game, spectators are reported to have called the referee, a girl under the age of 18, a “clown”, an “idiot” and threatened to give her a smack.
Alejandro Brieba, of Tinajo ACD, has told La Voz de Lanzarote that an apology has been made to the referee, and that a meeting will be held with parents to ensure such a situation does not happen again.
