The Scottish tourist who head-butted a Guardia Civil officer and was later released from hospital has flown back to the UK and is likely to escape justice.

La Voz de Lanzarote reports that the man, who was due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing at 9am on Sunday had boarded a Ryanair flight to London an hour earlier.

The passenger was arrested on Friday after verbally and physically attacking Guardia Civil agents who had been called to deal with a “troublesome passenger” on a flight from Glasgow.

The Unified Guardia Civil Association have complained that the suspect was released from the hospital at some point after they had handed him over. It is still not certain who authorised the release.
