The Canarian Government has declared tree days of official mourning following the death of ex-Canarian President Lorenzo Olarte Cullen.
The 91-year-old, who led the Canarian government between 1988 and 199, died on Friday evening in a clinic in Gran Canaria after a short illness.
Although not a Canarian native, Olarte Cullen became a key figure on the island’s in the critical years of Spain’s transition to democracy, originally standing for Adolfo Suarez’s CDS party before later assisting in the formation of the Coalición Canaria.
Flags will be flown at half-mast over official buildings until Tuesday.
