72,190 people on Lanzarote are registered with the Social Security system, a historical record.
The Social Security figures a good indication of employment on the island, and the November figures indicate that the amount of contributors has increased by almost 10,000 since two years ago, when the figure stood at 63.341.
Arrecife is the home of most contributors, with 30,009. Teguise, Tías, San Bartolomé and Yaiza each have between 8,000 and 11,000. Unsurprisingly, on an island where tourism is the most important industry, the services sector provides most contributors.
