Playa La Garita in Arrieta is flying a yellow flag after a bloom of algae was detected there yesterday.
Algae blooms are influenced by heat, the calmness of the sea and organic matter, and have also been reported in other locations on the east coast.
However, the Canarian Government does not consider such phenomena a serious risk to health, which is why a yellow flag rather than a red one has been raised.
Nevertheless, beach users are advised to not bathe in the presence of blooms, to avoid deposits washed up by the tide and to shower after bathing.
