There will be no let-up in the current heatwave, which brought temperatures of 36 degrees on Tuesday.
The Canarian Health Service has issued a red warning for San Bartolomé; and yellow warnings for Arrecife, Teguise, Yaiza and Haría. The health warnings are primarily aimed at vulnerable people and those planning outdoor activities.
AEMET, the Spanish weather agency, has also issued yellow heat alerts for the Canary Islands covering the daylight hours (9 am to 8pm) from today until at least Saturday. Maximum temperatures could reach 35 degrees today and are predicted to remain in the low to mid 30s until next Wednesday at least.
