An emergency helicopter rescued a 23-year-old walker who had fallen at the Volcán de la Corana yesterday.
Emergency services received a call at 11.33 on Sunday morning, and attended the scene of the accident. Once it was established that the young man could not walk, a helicopter transferred him to the César Manrique Airport, where an ambulance rushed him to hospital.
The Volcán de la Corona is the northernmost volcano on Lanzarote, and a popular destination for walkers. While the walk to the crater is easy, the dangerous nature of the crater itself and the rim of the volcano have led to a number of call-outs in the past.
