Lanzarote has received almost two and a half million Euros for public transport from the Spanish state.
The sum is part of a €47.5 million grant given to the Canarian Mobility Council, part of the Canarian Government, and is intended to be used for road transport. The Cabildo will have trhe responsibility of allocating the money to public transport operators in order to cover staffing costs and reduce deficits.
The allocation of the funds has not been explained, although associated subsidies have been shared on the basis of population and previous usage. Lanzarote has received roughly the same amount as Fuerteventura and La Palma, both of which have smaller populations and fewer tourists.
