168,000 of the 647,000 tourists who visited Lanzarote in the first quarter of 2023 chose all-inclusive (AI) holidays , according to the Canarian Institute of Statistics. This means that 26% of tourists choose the AI option, compared to figures of around 30% before and just after the pandemic.
In comparison with other Canary Islands, Lanzarote has more AI tourism that Gran Canaria and Tenerife (although the existence of large urban areas on those islands is likely to affect figures). Meanwhile, on Fuerteventura, over 43% of tourists arrive on AI packages.
Although Canarian politicians are often critical of AI tourism, which they accuse of damaging local businesses, they have been unwilling to attempt to limit it for fear of scaring off the influential tour operators and hotel chains who recognise the demand for it.
