Cabildo President, María Dolores Corujo, alongside councillor Sebastián Franquis and the Mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, have presented the plans for the first of numerous social housing buildings to be constructed in the Maneje area.
During the presentation Corujo stated “this is just the first of many other initiatives aimed at providing housing for the population” adding that the Canarian Government “ is fulfilling its commitment to Lanzarote, thanks to inter-administrative collaboration and the effort and hard work of many people.”
Lastly, Corujo stressed that it “guarantees access to a new life and a better future for dozens of families, many of them in vulnerable situations, who have been waiting for almost three decades for an affordable, quality roof over their heads.”
Councillor, Sebastián Franquis, added “today is a very important day for the island because we are beginning to see the long-awaited dream of public housing come trust in Arrecife after 27 years. We continue to meet the objectives we set ourselves with the implementation of the Housing Plan, which has been underway for two years.”
The construction on the first two buildings in the housing project is expected to begin this month with both buildings having 67 apartments available. The third building, also featuring 67 apartments, is expected to be put out to tender in June.
In total the three buildings will come at a cost of 10 million euros to construct.
