December 2025 | Gazette Life | 3ContentsEd's letterI don%u2019t suppose many people put toilet roll tubes on their Christmas tree. Shiny baubles, stars, tinsel and other festive decorations are what you usually see. But I know one tree which will bear its bog roll proudly this year.Christmas is about tradition, but sometimes those traditions can turn into ruts. Last year, the UK%u2019s Christmas Top 10 contained Wham, Mariah, The Pogues and Band Aid. The year before it was Wham, Mariah, The Pogues and Shakin%u2019 Stevens. I%u2019m sick of them. Enough is enough. Bring back Mr. Blobby. I also have to confess I%u2019ve never been too wild about British Christmas dinner. It%u2019s OK, but I%u2019ve never really understood why everyone eats the same thing at the same time on the same day year after year after year, why they moan about sprouts and parsnips, and why they cover it in gravy before eating it. On Lanzarote, the attitude is far more relaxed. There are festive foods, of course, but over the holiday you can choose to eat what you like, and the fact that you like it is what matters. The shops and supermarkets are full of choice and variety and nowadays you can even find parsnips or sprouts Published ByCANARY ISLAND IMPACT SERVICES S.L.Apartado de Correos (PO Box) 27 35510, Puerto del Carmen, T%u00edas.LanzaroteCif: B76362367DEPOSITO LEGAL: GC 786-2015EMAIL CONTACTSEDITORIAL: editorial@gazettelife.comADVERTISING: advertising@gazettelife.comCLASSIFIEDS: classified@gazettelife.comSOCIAL MEDIA: digital@gazettelife.com+34 928 093 823 +34 621 274 473www.gazettelife.comWhilst we make every effort to ensure that material published in the magazine is decent, legal and accurate, it can take no responsibility for any damage or loss which might arise as a result of material published herein. This is an island where it pays off to explore, break with the past, try new things and be excited by the new; where you can jump into the sea or climb a volcano on Christmas Day; where you can hear folk musicians serenade you as you do your Christmas shopping; where poinsettias replace fir trees, where the 12 Days of Christmas are more than just a song, where camels and Kings parade the streets. It%u2019s also a place where it%u2019s easy to start new Christmas traditions %u2013 after all, the only traditions that really matter are those that are special to us and those we love.I spent Christmas with my mum last year and, as usual, she%u2019d decorated a small tree for Christmas. And on that tree, as usual, there was an old toilet roll tube with some scraps of red crepe paper and a few wisps of cotton wool glued onto it. It%u2019s ugly, tatty, and ancient, but it%u2019s what I brought home from school one Christmas when I was six years old.We%u2019d like to wish all our readers, all our clients and everyone else we%u2019ve met and worked with over the last year the happiest of Christmas holidays and a wonderful 2026.
