Start with your bedroom, and ensure it%u2019s just right. In traditional, older Spanish homes you%u2019ll notice that bedrooms are often dark, shuttered rooms in the quietest, coolest part of the home. It%u2019s something you may have noticed on property shows, where buyers are looking for a more fashionable, light and airy bedrooms. But those traditional Spaniards knew what they were doing. In intense summer heat, it%u2019s important to keep a bedroom as cool as possible, and many households have routines that involve airing rooms in the morning and shuttering them during the hottest part of the day. Shutters and blackout curtains will also keep heat and light from entering, but you may still need to open a window late at night. A ceiling fan can be really useful investment, too. The next thing you%u2019ll need is a good mattress and pillows. If you%u2019re feeling tired and cranky, or have muscle pains, changing a mattress may be the solution. It%u2019s an expensive fix, however, and you can%u2019t take beds for a road test. Instead, try and think of places where you have enjoyed a good night%u2019s sleep, and take notes if you%u2019re travelling. Sleep is something we do every single day, and for that reason it%u2019s a good idea to develop a routine. But if it%u2019s not working for you, switch it around a bit %u2013 even if you%u2019re here on holiday. The Land of Nod
