Plenty of local businesses have taken advantage of the power of aloe vera, and aloe treatments are one of the most popular souvenirs and gifts here, but if you have a plant yourself, you can use it directly. To do so, first you%u2019ll need to take larger leaves from the base of an established plant. If you have an aloe yourself, fine, but ask permission before harvesting anyone else%u2019s.Once you have the leaves, wash them carefully, and soak the base in fresh water for around 20 minutes. Dry off with kitchen paper or a soft cloth. Aloe leaves are serrated with several smaller spikes, but unlike the vicious saw-like leaves of similar plants such as agaves, these are soft, fairly blunt and not normally dangerous.Still, it%u2019s a good idea to peel the spikes off with a potato peeler; then use a knife to cut the leaf into smaller sections of about 3-4 inches. You can then peel one side of the outer leaf off, revealing the transparent, slimy gel inside. Now you have a natural applicator pad, which you can apply directly to your face for an effective moisturiser. There%u2019s also evidence that aloe applications can help soothe acne, and the cool gel has been used to ease sunburn and insect bites for centuries. If you sprinkle a little granulated sugar on the %u201cpad%u201d, you can use it as an effective exfoliating treatment.It%u2019s not just good for your face, though. Aloe pads can be used to treat dry skin anywhere on the body, and can be a real boon for hard, cracked skin on the feet. For other applications, carve the gel from several leaves out into a bowl, then give it a quick whizz in a blender before squeezing it through a tea towel into the bowl. This gel can be used for face masks and also gives a new lease of life to your hair. Hair can have a tough time on Lanzarote, with all that sunshine, salt water and pool chemicals, so use the prepared aloe gel as a conditioner, applying it your hair and leaving it for up to an hour.Aloe powerThe aloe vera is one of the most easily recognisable plants on Lanzarote, an outburst of thick spikes whose fresh, green colour and elegant, flame-like arrangement make it one of the most popular ornamental plants here.%u201cAloe is a natural antidote to burns and stings%u201d EXCLUSIVE TO OUR SHOPS IN LANZAROTECreate your bracelet link by link including the new Lanzarote special edition links.Watches, Rings, Bracelets and NecklacesVisit us in store, by Instagram or contact us on Sidney_jewellery_watches or +34 648 041 379Av. de las Playas No.53 -L4, Barcarola Club, 35510, Puerto Del CarmenFIND US OPPOSITE TO YUM YUMSSidney Complements next to theApartamentos Oceano in Costa Teguise,Av. del Jablillo, 12, LOCAL 7, 35508
