20 | Gazette Life | November 2025Every cat or dog deserves a chance at happiness. However, some, due to age, breed, health, or even their appearance, are overlooked in favour of younger animals or new arrivals. That%u2019s why this year we want to highlight twelve wonderful animals%u2014six cats and six dogs%u2014who have been waiting for years for someone to notice them. One such dog is Richard. At ten-and-a-half years old, this male Bardino-mix is a true love bug who simply adores people. Bardinos are native to the Canary Islands and are known for their loyalty and affection, and Richard is no exception. For some unexplainable reason, he has been at the shelter since 2017, and we hope someone will find a Richardshaped place in their heart for this wonderful boy so he can spend his golden years in the comfort of a loving home.Piol%u00edn is one of the feline stars of the 2026 calendar. At nearly seven and a half years old, this handsome, characterful gingerand-white boy has spent most of his life at the shelter. From kitten to fully-grown cat, SARA is the only home he has known. Although all the animals at the shelter receive wonderful care, it isn%u2019t a substitute for a loving home. Hopefully, being a calendar star will help him find the right person or family.Every year, SARA%u2014Lanzarote%u2019s largest cat and dog shelter%u2014creates a calendar to raise essential funds and promote their important work. This year, they are highlighting some of the %u2018invisibles%u2019%u2014the animals that have been at the shelter the longest and are often overlooked when it comes to adoption.SEEING THEGAZETTE | PETSBy Justin Kerswell, SARA volunteer photographerInvisiblesSARA 2026 CALANDER
