March 2026 | Gazette Life | 21Sail and strollSpring is a great time to get out and stretch your legs, but why not get a few lungfuls of sea air first? Here a few walks that are just a short ferry trip away from Lanzarote. The clifftop walk from Puerto del Carmen to Puerto Calero is one of the loveliest outings for holiday-makers in Lanzarote%u2019s biggest resort, with glittering seascapes and the distant rolling Ajache volcanoes to the south. You can hike back again, or take it easy, eat, drink and jump onto the famous water taxi, which will give you a dolphin%u2019s eye view of the route you%u2019ve just walked as you return to Puerto del Carmen harbour. Or take a voyage to Fuerteventura and hike out of the resort of Corralejo. Heading west past the wind turbines will take you along wild, desolate coastland until you reach the Playa del Bajo de la Burra, otherwise known as Popcorn Beach, a white strand covered in strange mineral formations that look like popcorn. Tracing the resort%u2019s coast in other direction will eventually lead you to Corralejo%u2019s beautiful beaches, where turquoise waters lap against pale sand. The famous dunes are about 6 kms from the harbour, and you can get a bus back from the crossroads near the famous hotel where Spanish disco duo Baccara were first discovered 50 years ago.But the best walk from Corralejo will involve another boat trip %u2013 a short ferry ride to the Isla de lobos, where you can hike through wetlands and weird volcanic cones to an impressive lighthouse, or scale the little island%u2019s only volcano. Then, of course, there%u2019s La Graciosa %u2013 an island made for exploring. Once you disembark at Caleta de Sebo, you can go in any direction you choose %u2013 west to Playa Francesa and Playa de la Cocina, north to the stunning Playa la Concha or east to the tiny hamlet of Pedro Barba. All these destinations are regularly served by Lineas Romero and if you want to take your dogs along with you on the hike, remember that pets travel free. The gorgeous beaches and dunes just south of Corralejo.
