I will be 80 years old in July and I don%u2019t enjoy travelling anymore. I would just like to say how much I%u2019ve enjoyed reading the Gazette over the many years and will miss reading the interesting articles.I have travelled to 61 countries in my lifetime but Playa Blanca is my favourite place. Why? Fine weather is practically guaranteed whatever time of year, there are some great places to visit, the sea is very safe and the people great. As you know I have always stayed at Dreams, formally the Hesperia Dorada. It will be a very sad day when I say goodbye as Dreams Hotel truly have made my dreams come true.%u201dWe%u2019d like to wish Eric all the best. His fidelity, respect and undimmed enthusiasm for Lanzarote are a perfect example of the best type of tourism.MUEBLES SAN SIM%u00d3N IS 40ANTONIO LORENZO DIES Arrecife%u2019s official chronicler and exCabildo President Antonio Lorenzo Mart%u00edn died on 17th June on Lanzarote. He was 92.A lawyer by training, Lorenzo was the first President of the Cabildo to be elected after the return of democracy, serving from 1979 to 1983 as part of the Union for the Democratic Centre party (UCD). During this period, he initiated the project that would result in the construction of Lanzarote%u2019s General Hospital. Lorenzo was also a writer who published three volumes of reminiscences about the Arrecife of his youth, and wrote hundreds more articles for local publications. He was the perfect host to the Gazette%u2019s editor when we interviewed him at his home in El Cable a few years ago. The Cabildo declared three days of official mourning during which public acts will be suspended and flags flown at half-mast. At this publication, we would also like to extend our condolences to Don Antonio%u2019s family. Many thanks to Muebles San Sim%u00f3n in San Bartolom%u00e9, who invited us to their 40th birthday celebrations last month.
