It seems that a normal teaspoon got into the mix when laying the promenade at Playa Blanca and has been trapped in concrete forever. Since then it's been tagged on Google Earth, stolen, replaced, hunted for by thousands of families and has been the subject of countless photos of social media, where people usually place their toes next to it.But those photos have highlighted the fact that not all of us have the most beautiful feet. Bunions, twisted toes, horny toenails and other unlovely foot features don't get many likes, so why not take time to look after your tootsies on Lanzarote?It makes sense. This is an island where sandals, flip-flops and open-toed footwear are absolutely normal, worn every day by thousands of people; it's a place where you can walk for miles barefoot on soft golden sand and it offers the perfect opportunity to let your feet have a breather and get a little sunshine. So here are some tips for footcare on a hot desert island.BAREFOOT THERAPYGoing barefoot isn't always a great idea on Lanzarote. Outdoors you'll find that many surfaces are far too hot to walk on, and this applies to sandy beaches, too. The darker the surface you're walking on, the hotter it's likely to be in full sunshine.Stick to the wetter sand near the sea, or early morning or late evening and you'll be able to enjoy barefoot strolls along most of the island's tempting beaches.You can go barefoot indoors, too, but Lanzarote's preference for tiled floors may mean you find it a little cool underfoot.FOOTWEARThe lighter the footwear, the better it is for your feet usually. Sandals, slip-ons, moccasins, and flipflops are all fine, as long as they're comfortable and non-constricting.If you do wear trainers or shoes, make sure you change socks regularly and give your feet a wash with soap, water and some talc. Fungal infections such as athlete's foot absolutely love warm, sweaty crannies.NAILSKeep them well clipped, cutting horizontally to avoid ingrown toenails and filing any rough tags off later with a nail file.
