But this month, there%u2019s extra cause for celebration as May 2026 also begins and ends with a full moon. Full moons are always a bit special on Lanzarote. Firstly, you can usually see them %u2013 clear skies allow you to get a really good look at that mysterious glowing circle sailing over the ocean.Secondly, they bring higher tides than usual, and high tides give the island a buoyant feeling of optimism, as little boats tug eagerly at their mooring and the sea laps against the harbour walls.There is plenty of local folklore about full moons, which are seen as a time to plant or harvest certain crops, but have also been a time of celebration. You%u2019ll still find corners of the islands where locals gather on full moons just to enjoy the light and magical atmosphere.
