It%u2019s a terrific route for a two-car walk if you leave your other vehicle in Playa Quemada, but we%u2019ll leave that for another day.Instead, we skirt around the steep Pico de Aceituna on our right, following a black plastic water pipe that will guide the first part of our walk. The path is narrow and the drop to the left is steep so take care here.Soon we pass through a thicket of nopal cactuses that are growing wild. Do not pick the fruit here as it is covered in tiny, wicked spines. A little further on we pass a path that takes us up to the peak of Pico de Aceituna, Gardens with soul%u2022 Garden Design & Build%u2022 Landscape Lighting%u2022 Smart Irrigation Systems%u2022 Artificial GrassAvda.Central, 45 - Opposite HiperDino, T%u00edas | +34 722 21 63 66 - +34 928 07 41 33 info@canariensis.eu | Monday - Friday: 8am - 1pm & 3pm - 7pm Saturdays: 10am - 2pm | Sundays: Closedwhich is well worth taking if you fancy a detour for some astonishing views and another Lanzarote summit under your belt.If not, carry on. We%u2019re now skirting around the right-hand side of Pico Redondo, a large, impressive mountain, and the path is just as narrow and steep. This time the whole plain of Playa Blanca is laid out to our right, with sweeping views of the south. Look out for the incredible colours of the rocks here as they change abruptly from orange to red and even a brimstone yellow. You%u2019re also likely to see wagtails and maybe hear the %u201cskree%u201d of a soaring kestrel. As you skirt the mountain, look out for a path heading uphill and away from the water pipe. This is where we need to take the high road, crest the rise and start heading down the Barranco de la Casita. Once we%u2019re about a kilometre down, look out for a path leading over the ridge to your left and climb over until you%u2019re in the Barranco de la Higuera once again. From here it%u2019s a stiff ascent back up to the dairy and water deposit and then back down into Fem%u00e9s for a well-earned refreshment.
