February 2026 | Gazette Life | 21JELLYFISH ALERTAfter sea slugs/ jelly fish were observed on beach near Fariones yesterday, the lifeguard was thankfully quick to close the beach for swimming. I am wondering if you have any idea how long the slugs/ jelly fish generally stay around for? Lar McCarthyEd. We weren%u2019t aware of this incident, but we%u2019re guessing that it was a sighting of either jellyfish or the sea slugs called blue dragons. Beaches are rarely closed for more than a day or two when these are observed, and incidents are very rare on the beaches in the tourist areas %u2013 we haven%u2019t heard of a jellyfish warning in the resorts for several years. It%u2019s always best to heed the lifeguards, though. AIRPORT INCIDENTDear Gazette,On 28th December we were queuing at the Aer Lingus check in for our return flight home. We heard a terrible bang and noticed an elderly man in the queue had collapsed and banged his head on the tiled floor. He was totally unresponsive and looked in a very bad way.Two things were most upsetting: no one at the airport seemed to have experience in what to do in such a situation. The man could have collapsed due to a heart attack. The second issue was that two airport staff came with a wheelchair and lifted him up into the chair. This man shouldn%u2019t have been moved by untrained staff. It was obvious from the blood he had sustained a head injury and a possible neck injury. No thought was given to this poor man. It was very distressing to watch the lack of care or indeed respect shown to him. It beggars%u2019 belief in such an airport there were no protocols for such an event. We don%u2019t know what happened to the poor man as check in proceeded as if nothing had happened throughout this terrible incident.KateEd: We haven%u2019t heard any reports of this incident, Kate, and it certainly sounds worrying. The airport has defibrillators available and claims to have trained staff on hand to apply First Aid and assistance, as well as a First Aid post downstairs in the arrivals area. With over 25 years of experience, we%u00b4re the right place to get more clarity and personalised support to handle your Lanzarote accounting & taxes. Our services%u2022 Residents taxes %u2022 Non-residents taxes %u2022 Business owners%u2022 Self-employed %u2022 Holiday rental taxes%u2022 Capital gain tax%u2022 Presale & postsale Property taxes%u2022 Inheritance tax%u2022 Spanish Digital CertificateFor personal consultations Consultancies in person, Zoom or FaceTime to go over your specific needs and give you the best advice to move forward.WWW.REDTAPELANZAROTE.COM Office: +34 928 512 520 Mobile: +34 639 343 920alba@redtapelanzarote.comemma@redtapelanzarote.comYou can find us at: Avenida Las Palmeras 28 Local 1, Urb Los Molinos %u2013 Costa Teguise
