14 | Gazette Life | February 2026Stepping into the lobby of the Seaside Los Jameos, you are immediately met with an air of timeless class. Designed in the style of a traditional Canarian mansion courtyard, the hotel beautifully weaves local heritage with the modern legacy of artist C%u00e9sar Manrique. The result is a space that feels completely contemporary, yet evokes a more sophisticated, elegant, and luxurious era of travel.Last year, the hotel underwent a huge refurbishment to make improvements to its rooms, restaurants, activity areas, health & wellness facilities, and much more. We toured the hotel, which is currently finalising the last steps to achieve a 5th star, and spoke with Executive Director Assistant, Kateryna. The hotel looks fantastic, Kateryna! The new design has been described as stylish and deeply connected to Lanzarote. Where will guests see this most clearly?Yes, we%u2019re very happy with the work. We preserved the original style, created by two architects trained by C%u00e9sar Manrique, and added a fresh, modern touch. This can be seen in our new %u00e0 la carte restaurant, in the new children%u2019s area, in the rooms, and throughout the hotel.Returning guests will still find the hotel that they know and love, however, they will now have even more to experience. Sustainability was an important part of the refurbishment, too. Absolutely. We obtained the Travelife Gold award a year and a half ago, becoming one of the first ten hotels in the world to achieve it. Since then, we have installed a geothermal system for room and pool climate control, a system to reduce food waste, electronic allergen signage, eco-friendly cleaning products, and a herb garden for our %u00e0 la carte restaurant. We now have three drinking water stations installed, one specifically for staff, promoting sustainability and reducing single-use plastic. For three decades, the Seaside Los Jameos has been a premier destination in the Canaries, earning a loyal following of Lanzarote visitors. Following its 30th-anniversary celebrations, the Matagorda hotel underwent a stunning refurbishment. The new rooms look stunning. What has changed? Our rooms are now more modern and cozier than ever. The rooms feature new furniture, curtains, textiles, mattresses, televisions, duvets, and the air conditioning system has been replaced with individual climate control. Additionally, some feature walk-in showers instead of bathtubs, and all are equipped with minibars, upgraded electrical systems, and plug sockets specifically for UK guests. There%u2019s been some fabulous additions to the dining options. What%u2019s new?We have introduced our new stylish %u00e0 la carte restaurant, Arroz y Fuego, where Spanish flavours take centre stage. In the restaurant you are surrounded by warm textures, soft lighting and contemporary design, you are invited to slow down, savour the moment and enjoy an atmosphere as memorable as the cuisine. From beautifully crafted paellas to flavourful specialities prepared with the finest ingredients, our chefs bring the essence of Spain to your table. The new restaurant is open to the public too, and we are delighted to welcome Lanzarote locals from Tuesday to Saturday, with prior reservation by contacting the hotel reception.
