Recent rainfall across Lanzarote has highlighted an issue many property owners don’t realise until it’s too late — hidden leaks.

While everything may seem fine on the surface, small leaks can quickly develop into costly problems, especially after periods of heavy rain. From rising water bills to damp patches and even structural damage, the effects can escalate fast if left unchecked.

At Leakbusters, we’ve already seen an increase in enquiries following the recent weather, particularly from homeowners noticing unusual water usage, loss of pool levels, or unexplained moisture around their property.

Spot the early warning signs

Many leaks go unnoticed for weeks or even months. Keep an eye out for:

* Unexpected increases in your water bill

* Damp patches, mould, or musty smells

* Reduced water pressure

* Cracks or movement in walls or flooring

* Ongoing pool water loss without explanation

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth acting early.

Why early detection matters

What starts as a small issue can quickly turn into something far more serious. Hidden leaks can lead to:

* Structural damage to your property

* Expensive repair work

* Water wastage costing hundreds or even thousands over time

The earlier a problem is identified, the easier — and more affordable — it is to resolve.

Specialist, non-invasive solutions

Leakbusters specialise in advanced, non-invasive leak detection, meaning issues can be identified quickly without unnecessary disruption or digging.

Services include:

* Leak detection (indoor and underground)

* Pool leak detection

* Drain inspections and CCTV surveys

* Blocked drains and drainage issues

* General plumbing and maintenance

* Electrical and property maintenance services

Whether it’s a residential property, holiday villa or commercial premises, having the right diagnosis is key before any repair work begins.

Local expertise you can rely on

With extensive experience working across Lanzarote properties, Leakbusters understand the common issues caused by weather, ground movement, and ageing infrastructure.

Following recent rains, now is the ideal time to check your property and avoid problems developing unnoticed.

If you’ve spotted any warning signs — or simply want peace of mind — it’s always better to act sooner rather than later.

The PSOE in Lanzarote has reported that Timanfaya National Park is once again suffering “traffic gridlock”, with long queues of vehicles and “chaos” at the entrances. According to the party, the situation has forced the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) to intervene yet again to enforce compliance with current regulations.

The PSOE argue that this is not an isolated incident but rather “a recurring situation”, in which the Guardia Civil has had to step in on several occasions to “limit the number of parked vehicles, set at a maximum of 90, in the face of clear violations of environmental and safety regulations”.

Socialist councillor Benjamín Perdomo, a former head of the Centers for Art, Culture, and Tourism, has been direct in his criticism. “What is happening in Timanfaya is no coincidence; it is the direct consequence of the inaction and mismanagement of the current government,” he said.

“Seprona is having to do the work that belongs to the Cabildo. It is unacceptable that, time and again, we see images of endless lines, cars invading protected areas, and a total lack of control. It is utterly irresponsible,” he added.

The PSOE recalled that during the previous legislative session, it had drafted a specific protocol to regulate access to the park. That protocol included the creation of two parking areas in Tinajo and Yaiza and the implementation of a shuttle bus system to reduce the pressure of private vehicles in the protected area.

“That plan has been drawn up, refined, and is ready to be implemented. What’s missing is political will. We can’t keep looking the other way while one of Lanzarote’s most important natural areas deteriorates,” stated the Socialist councillor.

Concerns over sustainability and visitor experience

The PSOE emphasised that the current situation not only affects the conservation of the National Park but also damages the island’s image as a sustainable tourist destination, while causing inconvenience and unnecessary delays for residents and visitors.

“Timanfaya cannot continue to be synonymous with gridlock,” Perdomo said.

For all these reasons, the PSOE of Lanzarote demanded that the governing coalition formed by Coalición Canaria and the Partido Popular immediately activate the mobility plan designed during the previous legislative session. The party is calling for the shuttle bus system and park-and-ride facilities to be implemented as an urgent measure to ensure compliance with the law, protect the environment, and improve the experience of those visiting Timanfaya. “What is at stake is the sustainability and credibility of Lanzarote as an island that prides itself on protecting its territory. And today, unfortunately, that credibility is in question due to the Cabildo’s negligence,” he concluded.

The post PSOE slams “traffic chaos” in Timanfaya and urges activation of shuttle bus plan first appeared on Gazette Life.

In the first quarter of 2025, more than 82% of flights departed on schedule, which cut the number of affected passengers in half to 4.6 million.

Despite the widespread lack of punctuality, only 185,000 passengers are entitled to compensation.

Most punctual airports and those with the worst delays

According to AirHelp’s analysis, which considers airports with more than 200 scheduled flights per month, passengers departing from Asturias have been the luckiest. Of the 159,000 travellers who took a flight from Asturias, 81.6% departed on time. Close behind, Granada-Jaén and Ibiza airports rank as the second and third best in the first quarter of the year, with on‑time rates of 79.7% and 74.6% respectively.

By contrast, passengers at the airports of La Palma, Santiago de Compostela and Ceuta were not so fortunate. These airports recorded the worst figures for the first part of the year, with on‑time rates of 36.8%, 44.3% and 47.2% respectively.

AirHelp has also analysed the performance of Spain’s two main airports, Madrid and Barcelona, which together account for 46% of passenger traffic in the country. Madrid handled 6.8 million passengers, while Barcelona served 5.5 million. Of these, only 66.3% departed on time in Madrid, and 68.9% in Barcelona.

The post Flight delays and cancellations double in Spain during first quarter of 2026 first appeared on Gazette Life.

Under its La Grieta brand, the winery’s “La Grieta Blanco Seco 2025” claimed a Gold Medal. The judges praised the wine for “highlighting the characteristic freshness of the Máguez region.”

A second Gold Medal was awarded to “La Camuesa 2024” in its category, an accolade shared by “La Grieta Rosado 2025”. That wine charmed the jury with its “chromatic elegance and balance on the palate,” according to the competition’s citation.

Completing the set of honours, “La Grieta Afrutado 2025” earned a Silver Medal, recognised for its harmony and its ability to convey the most appealing and aromatic side of the Lanzarote grape.

For the family behind Malpaís de Máguez, these awards carry deeper meaning. “These are not just medals, but recognition of resilience and manual labour in a growing region as spectacular as it is demanding,” said Ricardo Socas, the winery’s manager and winemaker.

The official awards ceremony will take place on 21st May in Madrid.

The post Lanzarote Winery Celebrates Four Medals at CINVE 2026 first appeared on Gazette Life.

Lanzarote is attending the 2026 edition accompanied by local producers, primary sector associations, culinary experts and a broad representation of the service sector.

During the opening ceremony, Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort emphasised how “Lanzarote and La Graciosa have come to understand that their cuisine is not merely a tourist attraction, but a key tool for economic development and social cohesion. We are here to show the world that behind every product lies landscape, tradition, and innovation, and that this combination is our greatest competitive advantage.”

For her part, the Minister of Economic Promotion, Nori Machín, stressed the importance of this international showcase, noting that “the Salón Gourmets allows us to consolidate relationships, open new markets, and strengthen the presence of our products in high-level circuits. Our strategy involves continuing to connect the primary sector with the restaurant industry and tourism, generating real opportunities for our professionals.”

The opening ceremony included the presentation of the stand’s programme titled “Lanzarote and its Gastronomy: A Strategy for the Local Economy and Landscape”, a roadmap that outlines the Cabildo’s initiatives.

Sweet potatoes, wine, potatoes, fish, chocolates, beer, salt

In Monday’s programme was the presentation of the audiovisual piece “Recipes from the Traditional Cuisine of Lanzarote”, based on the work by Fefo Nieves published a few months ago by the Cabildo. The event featured a presentation by food journalist Fran Belín and was attended by the island’s leading authorities present at the fair.

In addition, the event also offered an opportunity to introduce some of the Lanzarote students in Madrid to the key strategies the Cabildo employs for promoting the island’s products and cuisine both domestically and internationally.

The Saborea Lanzarote schedule will continue today and Wednesday with a full programme of activities, tastings and presentations that will highlight the island’s culinary strengths.

The post Saborea Lanzarote puts local products at the heart of 2026 Salón Gourmets in Madrid first appeared on Gazette Life.

70% of new employment contracts on Lanzarote are filled by non-Spanish nationals, according to data from the Cabildo’s Statistics Department.

4,460 of the 6,360 new contracts issued in the first quarter of 2026 have been filled by foreign nationals, with Latin American migrants accounting for 2,288 places – a third of all jobs.

EU nationals and Africans account for a similar number of contracts, with around 960 each. 257 contracts went to Asians while the Rest of Europe, which includes the UK, saw 156 contracts.

Five men are employed for every four women, and the most important age group is that between 25 and 45 years of age.

The most important sector for foreigners’ jobs is hotels and catering, which accounts for two-thirds of all contracts. This is followed by “other services” and retail/commerce.

However, the brisk turnover in employment also reflects an island that relies of precarious, short-term jobs, given that over 40% of contracts are temporary hires lasting less than a month. A further 30% are of “undefined” duration, while only 4% (251 contracts) were for defined terms over six months.

The post Foreigners fill 70% of jobs on Lanzarote first appeared on Gazette Life.

This isn’t just a treatment for sore muscles; it is a holistic practice rooted in the belief that the body carries its own memory. Practised by Francis Barbier-Martins, the Deep Lomi Lomi Maui massage uses slow, continuous, flowing strokes along the entire body. Working predominantly with the forearms, the technique creates a rhythmic, wave-like sensation that aims to release deep-seated tension, encourage emotional healing, and restore the natural flow of energy within the body.

The experience is designed to be deeply nurturing. Francis uses organic massage oil, with the option of a luxurious organic hot coconut oil to enhance the feeling of warmth and detoxification. The goal is to cultivate a feeling of fullness and release, allowing you to let go of both physical and mental stress.

Understanding that each individual’s response to Lomi Lomi is deeply personal is key to its effectiveness. Francis encourages his clients to tune in to their own body’s signals during the session, creating a collaborative journey that accommodates its unique needs. For anyone looking to lose all sense of time and embark on a wonderful trip into the world of wellness, this 80-minute session offers a profound opportunity for relaxation and renewal.

To experience this unique healing practice for yourself, visit Bodykinetik at Calle Reina Sofia 27, Puerto del Carmen. Contact Francis via WhatsApp at +34 696 108 732 to arrange a session.
