Teguise Ayuntamiento will hold the 2nd (RE)CREAT “For Life” Charity Run on September 11th. The race aims to raise awareness and promote suicide prevention.

The event will begin at 7:30pm in the Playa Bastián parking lot in Costa Teguise and will feature different categories to encourage participation by people of all ages: a 5-kilometer run, a solidarity mile, and a 200-meter children’s race.

The proceeds will go to the Mutual Aid Group for Those Affected by Suicide (GAMAS), an organisation that does important work providing guidance and support to those affected and their families.

Registration is now open at www.tripasioneventos.com, both for those wishing to participate in any of the events and for those who would like to volunteer to help organise the event.

Teguise Ayuntamiento has invited residents and visitors to take part in this year’s Las Nieves Festival, one of the island’s oldest and most cherished religious and cultural celebrations.

Running from 29 July to 5 August, the festivities honour Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, whose links to Lanzarote stretch back more than 300 years. The celebrations combine religious devotion, traditional music, sporting competitions and community gatherings at the Santuario de Las Nieves.

Nuestra Señora de las Nieves was declared Lanzarote’s first patron saint by the island’s General Council in 1725, after local representatives made a solemn vow seeking her protection from drought and other hardships. Three centuries later, the annual festival continues to draw thousands of people, reflecting its enduring place in the island’s cultural identity.

Cabildo president Oswaldo Betancort said preserving traditional celebrations also means preserving the memory of those who shaped Lanzarote.

“The festival is part of our shared heritage that unites us as a people and deserves to be passed on to future generations,” he said, adding that the island council remains committed to supporting events that strengthen Lanzarote’s cultural identity.

Pilgrimage and Traditional Music

As in previous years, a large marquee will be erected beside the Ermita de Las Nieves to provide a meeting place for residents and visitors throughout the celebrations. A food stall will also be available, with the venue hosting many of the festival’s musical performances and activities.

The programme begins on 29 July with the traditional envite tournament, followed by a truco tournament on 3 August.

The official opening ceremony takes place on 31 July, featuring a proclamation by Santiago Ramírez Curbelo, followed by a performance from the group Calicanto.

One of the festival’s most anticipated events, the popular pilgrimage to the Ermita de Las Nieves, takes place on 1 August. Hundreds of pilgrims are expected to make the journey before presenting offerings to the Virgin, accompanied by performances from Altaja and the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe folk group.

The evening concludes with a major folk music festival featuring Los Gurfines, Son los del Puerto, Son del Norte, and Los Valles.

Festivities continue with the torneo de ronda on 3 August, before reaching their climax on 5 August. Following the traditional breakfast of hot chocolate and churros for pilgrims, thousands are expected to gather at the Santuario de Las Nieves for religious services, culminating in the solemn Mass at midday and the traditional procession.

Teguise Ayuntamiento has begun the contracting process for this year’s Christmas Market, which will take place from 3rd to 8th December in part of the municipality’s historic centre.

Preparations for the annual event are already underway, with the council seeking a contractor to install the market stalls, provide daily maintenance throughout the event, and dismantle the facilities by 10th December.

The municipality has allocated a budget of more than €220,000 for the project. Companies interested in bidding for the contract have until Friday, 23rd July, to submit their proposals and the required documentation.

If the procurement process proceeds as planned, the contract is expected to be awarded during the autumn, between October and November.

According to the tender specifications, the Christmas Market must include at least 35 stalls, as well as security and cleaning services throughout the event.

The market is expected to bring together local artisans, entrepreneurs, and retailers, creating a festive atmosphere while showcasing unique products in the run-up to Christmas. Details on how traders can apply for a stall will be released in the autumn, following the procedure used in previous years.

The popular annual event will once again transform the historic centre of La Villa de Teguise into a large open-air cultural venue, with activities running from 4:00pm until after midnight.

Culture, Music and Entertainment Across the Historic Centre

Streets, plazas, historic buildings and landmark sites throughout the old town will host a diverse programme aimed at all ages, featuring live music, performing arts, gastronomy, exhibitions, children’s activities and interactive experiences.

Main Performances

Plaza de Los Leones will serve as one of the evening’s principal venues, hosting:

• Sueños que Cobran Vida by the Teguise Musical Youth
• The visual show Mascarada
• A roaming parade by Los Cumbacheros
• A headline concert by Cristina Ramos with From Opera to Rock

Teguise is making final preparations for Noche Blanca 2026, one of the municipality’s biggest annual cultural and commercial events, which will take over the historic streets of La Villa de Teguise on Friday, June 26.

Running from 4:00pm until 2:00am, the celebration will transform the town’s squares, streets and landmark locations into a vibrant festival space featuring music, culture, gastronomy, entertainment and activities aimed at all ages.

The event is expected to once again attract large numbers of residents and visitors, with organisers planning activities across more than seven stages and around 20 themed areas throughout the historic centre. While the complete programme has yet to be released, the council has confirmed that attendees can look forward to concerts, street entertainment, travelling performances, dance zones, family activities, youth programmes, food experiences, live art displays, wine tastings, food trucks and a range of other attractions.

One of the standout attractions will be the return of “Noche Negra” at the Castillo de Santa Bárbara, a themed experience that has become one of the event’s most popular features. Parades and roaming performances will also bring entertainment to the town’s streets throughout the afternoon and evening.

Mayor Olivia Duque described the event as far more than a simple festival, saying it highlights the energy of the municipality and demonstrates how La Villa can become a major meeting point for culture, leisure and community life. She added that each edition provides an important boost to local businesses, restaurants and the wider economy while offering residents and visitors a different way to experience Teguise.

Councillor for Culture and Festivals Andoni Machín said organisers are working on a varied and ambitious programme designed to appeal to all age groups. He confirmed that the full schedule, including artists, performances and special experiences, will be announced in the coming days.

Noche Blanca has become one of Lanzarote’s most significant cultural and leisure events, and this year’s edition is expected to once again fill every corner of the historic town with activity as the island welcomes the start of summer.

Teguise Ayuntamiento, in association with FASAT, has released the programme of the 5^th annual Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing Fair, which will take place this weekend at the Agricultural Complex between Teguise and San Bartolomé.

The fair will officially open at 6pm tonight, Thursday 4^th June, and will then open from 9.30 am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

There will be huge range of events, including exhibitions of livestock, ploughing with oxen, a food fair, workshops on activities ranging from chainsaw use to creating strings of onions, cheese tasting, displays of Canarian wrestling, live music and much, much more. The highlight for many visitors will be the horse race that will take place on Sunday at 12 noon.

The fair is becoming one of the most popular annual events on the calendar, and attracted more than 40,000 visitors last year.  It’s a fantastic day out, and we’d recommend making a special effort to enjoy it.

Teguise Ayuntamiento has completed a programme to renew and install new signage, information panels and signposts along the municipality’s coastline.

The work has been carried out across beaches and coastal areas in both Teguise and La Graciosa as part of a wider plan to modernise and improve coastal facilities for residents and visitors.

The updated signage includes clearer and more accessible information on beach regulations, safety advice, water quality, environmental details, available services and the specific characteristics of each area.

New poles and display systems have also been installed to communicate beach conditions and swimming safety information, helping authorities comply with current regulations while improving communication with beach users.

Mayor Olivia Duque said the council is continuing to improve the municipality’s coastline by introducing measures that strengthen information, safety and accessibility.

“We are offering spaces that are better equipped and adapted to current needs,” she said.

Duque added that the improvements help ensure beach users have “clear and accessible information” while also meeting current technical and regulatory standards.

The initiative follows other recent coastal improvement measures, including upgrades to public toilets, coastal protection projects, improvements to walking paths and planned future works in public spaces and along seafront promenades.

The Canarian Government’s Department of Tourism and Employment has announced a €1.5 million investment aimed at improving tourist infrastructure in Lanzarote, with €635,000 specifically allocated to projects across Costa Teguise and other coastal areas within the municipality of Teguise.

Beach Safety and Accessibility Improvements

The works focus on three key areas designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and public services in tourist zones.

Plans include upgrades to lifeguard and rescue infrastructure on several Costa Teguise beaches, with new observation towers, flagpoles, flags, and updated safety signage being installed in line with tourism quality standards.

Public restroom facilities at Las Cucharas, Playa Bastián, and Playa Jablillo are also being repaired and modernised to improve services for both residents and visitors.

In addition, the project includes the renovation of beach access walkways, railings, footbaths, and pedestrian areas, together with the installation of new pergolas and vertical signage.

Focus on Sustainability and Public Spaces

Tourism Minister Jéssica de León said the initiatives will help create “a safer, more accessible and sustainable experience” for those using the Teguise coastline.

She also highlighted ongoing collaboration with Gesprotur and Teguise Ayuntamiento to restore trails, improve green spaces, and coordinate wider regeneration projects throughout Costa Teguise.

Mayor Olivia Duque welcomed the investment, describing it as an important step in continuing to modernise tourism infrastructure and public areas across the municipality.

Trail Network and Coastal Heritage Restoration

Gesprotur CEO Ignacio Solana also stressed the importance of restoring Costa Teguise’s trail network and rehabilitating traditional windmills along the coast as part of efforts to preserve local heritage and improve degraded public spaces.

Tourism Councillor Rita Hernández confirmed that trail restoration work is progressing well and said residents and tourists will soon be able to enjoy the upgraded routes.

Local authorities say the investment will play a key role in improving sustainability, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience in one of Lanzarote’s most popular tourist destinations.
