Tías Local Police removed another 71 electric scooters from the streets last week, most of them in Puerto del Carmen. The scooters will be impounded in the municipal deposit.

Mayor José Juan Cruz and Mobility Councillor Sergio García commented that the scooters had been removed following complaints by residents and said that they would continue to enforce laws relating to personal mobility vehicles.

By-laws relating to Tías require companies to obtain operating licenses, pay fees for the use of public space, and carry third-party liability insurance.

Operators must comply with the guidelines of Spain’s Traffic Department and adapt their fleets so that the vehicles are unable to exceed 25 km/h, are geolocated, and have locking systems to prevent illegal parking on pavements.

Matagorda Beach in Puerto del Carmen is being showcased on the ONCE Daily Lottery ticket for the draw on Wednesday, July 15th, as part of the organisation’s “Beaches with Flags” series. A total of five million tickets featuring the Lanzarote beach will be distributed across Spain.

The commemorative ticket was presented by José Antonio López, ONCE delegate for the Canary Islands, and José Juan Cruz, mayor of Tías. The “Beaches with Flags” collection, launched by ONCE last year, celebrates beaches that have consistently received the Blue Flag award in each Spanish province. The initiative aims to promote environmental conservation while recognising beaches that meet high standards for water quality, safety and visitor services.

A renovation project is planned for Calle Noruega in Puerto del Carmen, with the stretch between the Rambla Islas Canarias roundabout and Avenida de las Playas set to be transformed into a safer, more accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project, led by Tías council and financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), has a total budget of €1,760,151.72. Companies wishing to bid for the contract have until 4 August to submit their proposals, with construction expected to take 12 months once work begins.

The redevelopment will see the installation of continuous pavements and a dedicated cycle lane along the entire length of the road, bringing the street into line with the requirements of the municipality’s General Urban Development Plan.

According to the project documentation, the works will focus on improving road safety while also upgrading essential underground infrastructure. Plans include the renewal of water supply, sewerage, stormwater drainage, telecommunications and electrical networks, as well as the installation of irrigation systems and new landscaped tree planters. Accessibility improvements will also form a central part of the redevelopment.

The design has been prepared to match the appearance and layout of neighbouring sections of Calle Noruega that have already been modernised. Officials say this will create a consistent look along the avenue while providing a more organised, functional and attractive public space for both residents and visitors.

Tías Ayuntamiento will show Tuesday’s World Cup semi-final between Spain and France on a big screen in Puerto del Carmen’s Plaza del Varadero.

Lanzarote experienced one of the coolest maximum temperatures in the Canary Islands during June, with the island reaching a high of 29.8°C, almost 10 degrees lower than the archipelago’s hottest reading.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the highest temperatures of the month were recorded on 30 June across much of the Canary Islands. The hottest location was Tejeda in Gran Canaria, where temperatures climbed to 39°C at an altitude of 1,060 metres. La Gomera followed with 37°C recorded at 916 metres.

Only La Graciosa registered a lower maximum temperature than Lanzarote, reaching 26.8°C on 27 June.

Gran Canaria also recorded the warmest overnight temperature of the month, with a minimum of 28.6°C in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Tenerife was next, with a minimum of 25.9°C.

For the eastern islands, Lanzarote recorded a warm overnight low of 21.7°C, while nearby La Graciosa registered 21.1°C.

Rainfall across the Canary Islands varied significantly. June was wetter than average in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with rainfall reaching 110% of normal levels, while the province of Las Palmas, which includes Lanzarote, recorded just 75% of expected rainfall.

Overall, June 2026 ranked as the 25th wettest June in the Canary Islands since records began in 1961, although most of the rain fell in Tenerife.

Lanzarote remained almost completely dry throughout the month. The highest rainfall recorded was just 0.2 millimetres, measured at the Tinajo and Tías weather stations on the wettest day of the month.
