Sara Animal Shelter has issued a warning after two reported cases of dog poisoning were registered in the municipality of Haría.

The charity warns dog owners who may take their pets out to monitor them closely and prevent them from eating anything that they may find during walks.

It asks for any suspicious substances or activity to be reported to the authorities immediately, after ensuring that animals are kept away.

The fourth edition of the Haría Music Run Night has been hailed a success after 450 runners took part in an evening of sport, music and entertainment along the coastline of Arrieta and Punta Mujeres on Saturday.

Organised by Haría Ayuntamiento, the event featured three race distances and a packed programme of live entertainment, further establishing the Music Run Night as one of the municipality’s flagship summer events.

Festivities began at 7:00pm on the esplanade at La Garita Beach with DJ performances, followed by a Zumba warm-up led by the Báilame Dance School and a lively display from Batucada Guaychara ahead of the races.

The first event, a 1.6-kilometre family race, started at 9:00pm. The 10-kilometre race followed at 9:25pm, with the 5-kilometre runners setting off ten minutes later. Participants ran along a scenic coastal route linking La Garita Beach and Punta Mujeres, with 10K competitors completing two laps of the circuit.

Race Winners

10K

In the men’s race, Jorge Álvarez Álamo claimed victory in 33:17, ahead of Roberto Rojo Martínez (36:01) and Gabriel Acosta Perdomo (36:32).

The women’s title went to Nika Svetec in 38:52, followed by Marta Campmany (39:58) and Maike Döhling (40:29).

5K

Hugo Pérez Robayna won the men’s race in an impressive 15:39. Joel Gregorio García Domínguez finished second in 16:12, with José Vicente Vizcaíno Sicilia third in 16:50.

Susan Murnane took first place in the women’s race with a time of 20:26, ahead of Janina Morales Acuña (20:44) and María José Pina Alonso (21:46).

Family Race

The 1.6-kilometre family event saw Aarón Barrios Salas finish first in the men’s category in 5:31, narrowly ahead of Diego López (5:33) and Uways El Maymouni Ben Hammou (5:54).

Junon Lariño won the women’s race in 7:57, followed by Chloe Nieves Niz (8:06) and Valentina Armas González (8:18).

The municipality of Haría, in the north of Lanzarote, now has a permanent fire station operating 24 hours a day.

The station will have two bases – one on Haría town, the other in Arrieta – and firefighters are equipped with vehicles allowing them to operate on land and sea.

Lanzarote’s Emergency Consortium considered the location of fire station in Haría as a priority due to its distance from the main station in Arrecife. Firefighters will now be able to respond more quickly to potential incidents in the municipalities three tourist centres, its long coastline or the port of Órzola.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has asked Haría Ayuntamiento to temporarily pass over control of the pier at Playa La Garita in Arrieta, so that it can carry out renovation works.

The pier is a wooden walkway on the northern side of Playa La Garita which leads to a concrete island that is used by swimmers.

The President of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, said “this infrastructure has become a symbol for Arrieta and for all of Lanzarote, so we cannot allow it to continue deteriorating.”

“Although the maintenance and conservation of this facility is the responsibility of Haría Council, we’re offering a helping hand because the recovery of emblematic public spaces must be placed above any other administrative consideration. The important thing is that residents and visitors can once again enjoy this space with safety guaranteed,” added Betancort.

The offer comes after a report which recommended immediate action to stop the deterioration of the pier, which has been closed to the public for safety reasons.

Two weeks ago, Haría’s Mayor, Alfredo Villalba, called for the Cabildo’s help in repairing the pier, saying “We don’t have the resources to carry out such a project in such a way that safety can be guaranteed.”

The LZ-10 road leading to Haría from Los Valles has been closed to heavy vehicles indefinitely, until works are carried out reinforcing the tight hairpin bends on the steep descent from the Mirador de Haría.

Coaches, lorries and other vehicles weighing over five tons will have to take the alternative route via Arrieta. The decision has been taken due to fears that heavy vehicles could cause landslides or subsidence after the winter rains.

The restriction is likely to remain in place for at least two years. The Cabildo’s Public Works councillor, Jacobo Medina, explained that the road reinforcement project would be ready by July, but would then require funding to be found. It is estimated that, once underway, the works will last from a year to eighteen months.

This weekend, it’s party time up north as Haría celebrates its carnival… weather permitting.

While other areas of Lanzarote have cancelled outdoor activities due to predicted high winds, Haría is operating a “wait and see” policy. Winds are predicted to be less strong in the northern town, and a carnival for the disabled and hypersensitive went ahead on Friday without trouble.

If you’re visiting the market in the morning, hang around until 12 midday, when there’ll be a short parade in the square, but the main event starts at 6 pm, when the big parade sets off from the cemetery carpark, ending up in the main square.

The theme of Haría’s carnival is Peter Pan in Never-Never Land, and it’s always a lovely affair – smaller than the parades in the resorts, but with its own special charm.

Extra buses are being laid on from Arrecife for the event, and parking may require some planning and a short walk, as many roads in the centre will be closed for the parade.

Revellers heading to this year’s Carnival festivities in Haría can take advantage of a special bus service, aimed at making the event safer and more accessible for everyone.

The free bus service will operate on a circular route with buses running approximately every 30 minutes. It will commence at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 28th February, and continue until 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, 1st March. The route is scheduled to depart from the school in Arrieta, proceed through the two stops in Punta Mujeres and Cuesta del Pozo in Haría, before returning to Arrieta.

Reinforced Night Service and Line 7 Additions

In addition to the free circular route, regular line 7 services will see reinforcements during the carnival period. From Haría, extra departures are scheduled in the early hours of Friday, 27th February, into Saturday, 28th February, at 3:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.

From the Arrecife bus station, additional departures will run on Saturday, 28th February, at 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 9:00 p.m.

Further reinforcements will be available in the early hours of Sunday, 1st March. Departures from Haría are scheduled for 2:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m., 3:30 a.m., 4:00 a.m., 4:30 a.m., 5:00 a.m., and 5:30 a.m., with the bus stop located at the rear of the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación.

Traffic Restrictions and Stop Alterations

Due to traffic restrictions associated with the Carnival parade, alterations to regular stopping points will be in effect from 3:30 p.m. onwards. During this time, the only operational stop in Haría will be at Cuesta del Pozo.

Stops on Calle San Juan, Plaza, and La Cruz in Haría, along with those at La Molina and Sociedad in Máguez, will be cancelled in both directions.

Two cars were completely destroyed by a fire that broke out in the early hours of Monday morning in Arrieta.

Emergency services were alerted at approximately 12:30am.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that two vehicles parked next to the Parque Central were fully ablaze. They worked to bring the situation under control, using approximately 1,100 litres of water to fully extinguish the flames.

Guardia Civil were also at the scene and have taken charge of the subsequent investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Authorities have confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Haría Ayuntamiento is gearing up for the arrival of the Three Kings and the traditional parade through the municipality. The magical day is set for Monday, 5 January, promising excitement and wonder for families across the region.

Their Majesties will make their royal landing at the Arrieta pier at 3:30pm. Later, the main parade will wind through the historic town centre beginning at 7:00pm.

Mayor Alfredo Villalba invites all residents to enjoy a day specially crafted for the municipality’s youngest residents. The event has been organised with particular care to ensure safety, order, and enjoyment for everyone. “We are keeping alive a tradition deeply rooted in our municipality’s identity,” he emphasised.

Councillor for Culture, Evelia García, added, “The 2026 Three Kings Parade will once again turn Haría into a place of gathering, excitement, and conviviality, where citizens can share one of the most magical moments of the year.”

Royal Itinerary

Following their disembarkation in Arrieta, the Three Kings will embark on a tour of sociocultural centres in the municipality’s villages. A particularly special moment will be their visit to the Haría retirement home, where they will share a heartwarming time with elderly residents.

Parade Route

The official parade will commence in the heart of Haría, featuring important organisational changes this year designed to blend tradition with improved logistics.

The royal procession will begin from its historic starting point at the Ermita de San Juan. It will then proceed directly to Calle Encarnación Rodríguez before arriving at the traditional and eagerly awaited representation of the Casa de Herodes. The parade will continue on to the main square, where the mayor will present the magic key to the town, granting the Kings access to every home in Haría. The evening will culminate in the traditional distribution of gifts, providing a perfect finale to a day brimming with excitement and magic.

A 41-year-old hiker who spent the night lost in a remote area of northern Lanzarote has been located and rescued by emergency teams this Tuesday morning.

According to La Voz, the alarm was raised at 8:45am after the foreign national became trapped in a ravine in the difficult terrain between the towns of Haría and Órzola. He had been missing since the previous evening.

A multi-agency response was immediately launched, involving a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), firefighters from the Security and Emergency Consortium, Haría Local Police, and the Civil Guard.

Due to adverse weather conditions, the GES helicopter was unable to perform a direct hoist operation from the ravine. Rescue teams therefore reached the man on foot and, finding him with mild symptoms of hypothermia and dehydration, carried him by stretcher to a safer location.

The helicopter was then able to evacuate him to Lanzarote Airport. A waiting basic life support ambulance subsequently transported him to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital for further assessment and care.
