The Yaiza Ayuntamiento have presented a program of events and workshops to tackle gender violence, starting November 11th.

With the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women coming up this month on November 25th, the Yaiza Ayuntamiento have prepared a program of workshops, public conferences and artistic performances about gender violence.

Events will be held in both Yaiza and Playa Blanca. Mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda stressed the importance of education, “with this new program we intend to continue spreading awareness about this terrible issue that is happening in our country. Along with this we have existing programs in educational & cultural centres, with which we intend to reinforce education.”.

The slogan Yaiza en Igualdad (Yaiza in Equality) has been coined by the Councilor of Equality Daniel Medina who explained “all of the events scheduled will be celebrated under the slogan Yaiza en Igualdad. The program starts on November 11th and will end on November 25th. Alongside the program we will also be running presentations on our social media.”.

The program is as follows:

Thursday 11th November (18.30pm) – “Young people and Social medias, pornography and violence” presented at the Playa Blanca bus station by psychologist Mamen Fernández Sánchez.

Saturday 13th November (10.00am) – Women’s self-defence workshop, at the Playa Blanca bus station.

Wednesday 17th November (8.00pm) – Adult storytelling “Women and Lanzarote mythologies” presented at the Casa de la Cultura de Yaiza by Vicky Dos Santos and Aarón Márquez.

Saturady 20th November (12.00pm) – “Justice with a gender perspective, to achieve real equality” presented at the Casa de la Cultura de Yaiza by Gloria Poyatos.

There will be two events hosted on the day of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women at 12.00pm and 8.00pm. Starting with a lecture about the the day read at Yaiza town hall square.

In the afternoon there will be a musical performance at the casa de la Cultura by Maru Cabrera. To attend this event you must register in advance on the Yaiza Ayuntamiento website with your full name, ID and telephone number. You are allowed to register a maximum of 3 people.
