Nicola Sturgeon has announced that she will ask Westminster to transfer the powers allowing another Scottish independence referendum to be held in 2020.
However, Boris Johnson has insisted that the 2014 Indieref was a “once in a generation” vote, while Jeremy Corbyn has also said he would not support a vote in the early years of a potential Labour government.
The possibility of Scotland leaving the EU despite having voted to remain has energised the independence debate once again. Sturgeon said, “We will win our independence. But not the Brexit way. Not by undermining democracy, demonising those who disagree, and plastering lies on the side of a bus. We will win by inspiring and persuading.”
