Black is confident and bold. A colour which is used for nearly all handheld smart devices, kitchen equipment like ovens and stove-tops and televisions. But it is seldom used effectively in our homes.

The colour black is associated with strength, elegance and sophistication. Which is often why you’ll see adverts for smart devices panning across a deep black touchscreen or black controls. The adverts are trying to convey that the device is reliable, strong and cutting edge.

We see the colour every day. However, when we find ourselves in furniture shops we are usually drawn to the lighter and more vibrant colours to use in our homes.

Interior designers predict that the colour black will make a return to our homes in 2022, and be one of the most popular home trends of the year. It’s not hard to see why.

Using black accents in your home can totally redefine the space. Replacing wall fixtures with ones that have a black outline can change the feel of a room entirely. The hard borders can cut through a plain looking room and give it that aforementioned cutting edge.

You don’t have to rearrange a room to give it a new look, take a look through some of your favourite furniture shops for black ornaments. It’s not always about the furniture alone, but what is sitting on top of it.

Try different things and see what works for you, swapping an old lamp for a brand new matte black one with a neutral coloured lampshade can be a great way to change the vibe of a room.

You can breathe new life into an old set of cabinets or drawers by changing the swapping out the handles and hinges for black ones, too.

Your new black additions will pair well with another interior design trend, Earthy tones.

Up until now you may have thought that adding black to your interior would make your home look drab, dull and depressing. However, to achieve a deep and rich feel to your interior you can pair the black accents with Earthy tones such as dark green, brown and copper.

The start of the year is the perfect time to experiment with your interior, as most furniture departments will be running new year sales.
