As we reach the shortest days of the year, one ingredient is sure to keep you youthful and feeling good. Vitamin C is for Christmas. By Susana Villa, beauty consultant at Estética Los Arcos C.C. Los Arcos in Puerto del Carmen.
What is it?
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble antioxidant found in a wide variety of foods and fruit juices. It is present in broccoli, spinach, potatoes, citrus and several other sources. Vitamin C is known as the greatest ally against aging, as it helps protect cells from damage by free radicals caused by UV radiation from the sun, tobacco smoke or air pollution.
What benefits does it bring us?
There are many benefits of this vitamin. Its depigmenting power helps to regulate inflammatory processes and inhibit the production of melanin. It prevents the oxidation process of the skin and helps us to prevent premature signs of aging.
Vitamin C provides great luminosity to the face, improves dull skin tone and eliminates bags and dark circles. It reduces the signs of tiredness and fatigue that our face reveals, and stimulates the synthesis of collagen to firm our skin.
When should we use it?
We can apply vitamin C before and after a peel, or use it daily in the morning or at night. In the morning, we will always get all the benefits it offers us. It protects and regenerates our skin and acts as one of the best antioxidants.
To be effective on the skin it has to be at concentrations between 10-15% and with a Ph value that does not exceed three. We must always consider the skin type and get recommendations from beauty professionals.
Mesotherapy infusion with Vitamin C
Mesotherapy is a treatment that increases the permeability of the skin to allow the passage of Vitamin C. By means of configured pulse waves we are able to temporarily open micro-channels through the cell membrane and bypass the epidermis without piercing the skin.
