Here%u2019s how to stay safe. KEEP AN EYE ON KIDS Children are small, and carnival crowds can be distressing for them. If you%u2019re watching the parades, try and find a place at the front of the crowd early and don%u00b4t move. Be aware that some carnival groups deliberately try to give children a bit of a scare with menacing poses or noises, and that the drum groups can be very loud indeed. Most kids enjoy it, but some don%u2019t. LOOK AFTER YOUR PROPERTY Thieves and pickpockets aren%u2019t a big problem here, but if they do operate crowds such as those at carnival are a favourite target. So keep valuables well-guarded, and make sure you don%u2019t lose your phone in the throng. STAY IN TOUCH It%u2019s easy to lose contact with friends at carnival, so make sure you stay in touch over mobile phones. Even better, arrange a meeting place to gather if you do get separated. PLAN YOUR OUTFIT March can still be a bit cool on Lanzarote, especially in the evenings. As a result, that Tarzan or Ariel outfit might prove to be a little nippy. Even if you do have a skimpy outfit, try and take something along that will warm you up fast. GO EASY Carnival is fuelled by music, drums and rhythm, but also by ron miel (honey rum), and plenty of drinking goes on after the parade is over. Take it easy, especially if you%u2019re driving back home afterwards.
