Two people died on the evening of Thursday 11th June in a collision between a car and a bus on the road from Playa Blanca to Yaiza.Emergency services have confirmed the death of a young couple %u2013 an Italian man and a Spanish woman - who were residents of Playa Blanca. A six-year-old child, also travelling in the car, survived the crash and was treated at the Dr Jos%u00e9 Molina Orosa Hospital.The incident took place at around 7.30 pm near the Repsol petrol station. A 36-year-old passenger on the bus was also taken to hospital. The incident has caused for renewed calls to widen the LZ-2 road between Yaiza and Playa Blanca to a dual carriageway. TWO DEATHS ON PLAYA BLANCA-YAIZA ROAD TURTLE RELEASEA female Egyptian vulture that nests on the island of Alegranza appears to have found a new male admirer just a few weeks after the death of her original partner.The body of a male Egyptian vulture was discovered in May near %u00d3rzola. As it was tagged with a GPS locator, it could be confirmed as one of a pair of vultures that nest on Alegranza.The dead male hatched near %u00d3rzola in 2014, and records show that it was highly active, flying regularly between Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and the northern islands of the Chinijo Archipelago.Miguel %u00c1ngel Cabrera of the Canarian Government%u2019s Nature Department told Lancelot TV that his team had checked the nest immediately they became aware of the death of the male bird. There they discovered that the female was still present, and appeared to have been joined by another vulture.T%u00edas Ayuntamiento has turned off the showers on all beaches in Puerto del Carmen due to the water crisis on Lanzarote.Around 30 showers will be switched off between Matagorda and Playa Chica, although footwash facilities will remain connected.
