If you have made the move to Lanzarote but still own a property in the United Kingdom, that property is likely one of your most valuable assets. Whether it is lived in by a family member or rented out to provide an income that funds your life in Spain, it deserves proper safeguarding.

Many expats assume that a simple Will is enough. However, for UK property owners now living abroad, a Will alone may not offer the full protection you need. This is where placing your property into a UK Trust becomes a wise and practical step.

The advantages of a UK Trust for expat property owners

A Trust is a legal arrangement that gives you control over what happens to your property and other assets, both during your lifetime and after. For British expats living in Spain, the benefits include:

Avoiding probate delays. When a property is held in a Trust, it does not usually need to go through the probate process. This means your loved ones can avoid the long waits and significant costs that often come with UK probate, especially difficult when you are living overseas.

Protecting your intended beneficiaries. A Trust ensures that your property passes only to the people you choose. It cannot be diluted by divorce or separation, whether that is your own marriage breakdown or that of your children or other chosen beneficiaries.

Tax efficiency for married couples. If you are married, holding your UK property correctly at the Land Registry (usually as tenants in common rather than as joint tenants) means there is no immediate tax on the full value of the property on the first death. When passing to children on the second death, inheritance tax is only payable if the total UK estate is worth more than £1,000,000.

Protection for unmarried couples. If you are not married but have children you wish to inherit, a Trust can again make sure that your wishes are honoured. These arrangements are more complex than a Will alone and are always set up alongside your own UK Will. If you already have a Will, an update to place your property into Trust may be all that is required.

How CJH Consultancy can help you

A personal conversation is always arranged, either here in Spain or in the United Kingdom. The process begins with a free initial meeting at one of their offices or via Zoom, so they can understand your global picture and recommend exactly what services you need.

If you already have a UK Will, it may still be adequate with a simple update to place your property into Trust. If you have no Will at all, now is the time to act.

Do not leave your UK property unprotected or risk passing the wrong assets to the wrong people. A properly structured Trust, combined with Wills in both the UK and Spain, gives you peace of mind that your wishes will be followed and your loved ones will be looked after.

You can speak directly to Colin and his team via WhatsApp on +44 7762 059608 or arrange a Zoom meeting. More details are also available on their website.

There are some evenings as a private chef that stay with you long after the last plates have been cleared away.

Nerina from Event and Catering Solutions Lanzarote recently returned to one of her favourite villas on the island. A beautiful, peaceful place with an outdoor kitchen and dining area. A space that always seems to encourage people to slow down, pour another glass of wine and simply enjoy being together.

The booking had been arranged by Chris as a surprise celebration for two ladies in the group who were both turning 60. The brief was relaxed and sociable. Spanish tapas, good wine, laughter and a warm Lanzarote evening under the fairy lights.

Where the evening leads

The funny thing about this job is that you never quite know where the evening will lead.

One minute Nerina was serving tortilla Española and sizzling garlic prawns, topping up glasses of Rioja and checking the padrón peppers on the grill. The next, they were deep in conversation about a small old market town back in the UK.

Not just the same county. Not even the same nearby area. The very same town.

Within minutes they were talking about old pubs that no longer exist, familiar roads, teachers from school days, places they all remembered from years ago. Little details that instantly transport you back in time. Funny how someone can simply mention a street name or a pub sign and suddenly you are nineteen again for a brief moment.

Halfway between Nerina’s past life and the one she’s created in Lanzarote, sat under the warm sky surrounded by Mediterranean food, somehow they had all ended up back in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire for half an hour through memories alone.

More than just the menu

That is one of the things Nerina loves most about food and hospitality.

People often think hiring a private chef is purely about the menu. But honestly, the food is only part of it. The real magic is usually what happens around the table itself.

Stories get told. Families reconnect. Old memories resurface. Strangers become friends. And sometimes, completely unexpectedly, you discover you all once walked the same streets many years before.

As a chef, Nerina is invited into some very special moments in people’s lives. Birthdays, anniversaries, proposals, family holidays and long overdue reunions. It is never really just about cooking dinner. It is about creating an atmosphere where people relax enough to talk, laugh, reminisce and make new memories together.

What Event and Catering Solutions offers you

Book a private catering experience to enjoy in the comfort of your own home, holiday villa or event venue. Nerina brings bold flavours of the Mediterranean and Canary Islands straight to your table. Menus are tailor made to suit your guests and your budget, creating a personalised dining experience.

Fresh, locally sourced ingredients are crafted into bold, creative dishes, presented and paired with island wines, craft beers, cocktails and premium spirits. Special dietary needs are taken care of too, so everyone feels included and looked after.

Nerina and her team handle everything. Preparation, service, clear up. They can even source and supply Spanish and local drinks packages for you. Just ask when booking.

Save The Date!

Popular dates, especially weekends and peak seasons, fill up months in advance. 2026 and even 2027 is already booking fast. Once your date is secured, Nerina will work with you to design the perfect dining experience, from intimate dinners to celebrations of 4 up to 50 guests (with prior notice).

Relax knowing your chef is confirmed, and focus on looking forward to your event.

The project has been awarded to the company Capmar Sistemas de Información and forms part of the wider initiative titled “Supply and Installation of a Passenger Information System for Lanzarote’s Regular Intercity Transport (ITS).” The scheme is included in Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and is financed through European Union Next Generation funds.

The new information points will be installed at bus stops located along the LZ-2 in Mácher, Avenida Alcalde Florencio Suárez in Tías, and several key streets in Puerto del Carmen, including Rambla Islas Canarias, Avenida de las Playas, calle Venus, calle Marte, calle Noruega, calle Juan Carlos I and calle Reina Sofía.

Mayor José Juan Cruz said the initiative will improve services for passengers by providing accessible, real-time transport information through a modern and environmentally sustainable solar-powered system.

Councillor for Mobility and Transport Sergio García added that the new boards will represent “a significant improvement for residents and visitors,” particularly in busy intercity transport areas such as Mácher, Puerto del Carmen and Tías.

The post Tías to Install Solar-Powered Real-Time Bus Information Boards first appeared on Gazette Life.

Firefighters from La Graciosa rode jet skis across El Rio to inspect the zone and check if there were any casualties. However, owing to the remoteness and inaccessibility of the zone no one appears to have been involved.

The landslide involved around 25 metres of the cliff face, and has apparently damaged a footpath, the Camino de los Caleteros, along the foot of the cliff.

The Famara cliffs are a gradually eroding massif on which evidence of many earlier landslides is clearly visible. There is no indication that the landslide was linked with minor earth tremors that have recently been detected off Lanzarote’s coast, but the winter rains could have contributed to the instability of the cliff.

The post Landslide on Famara cliffs first appeared on Gazette Life.

The company stated that time would be required to locate the problem, carry out works to assess the situation and repair the breakdown and reload the supply system with water, adding that it was not known how long this would take.

As well as Tahiche, nineteen other towns and villages in Lanzarote and La Graciosa were affected by water cuts yesterday. The areas affected included Haría, Yaiza, Uga, Mácher, San Bartolomé, Güime, Nazaret and Tao.

Constant water cuts in rural areas were one of the principal reasons for the Cabildo’s recent decision to declare breach of contract and end its agreement with Canal Gestión. However, an alternative operator has still not been found.

The post No water in 19 areas of Lanzarote first appeared on Gazette Life.

We have all heard the horror stories. The vacant property that fell into disrepair, the burst water pipe that wasn’t discovered for weeks, or worse, the villa that became an unwanted target due to visible neglect. For many owners, the fear isn’t just about the weather; it’s about the unknown.

This is where the distinction between a simple caretaker and a dedicated management team becomes vital. You don’t just need someone to open a gate; you need support for your investment.

Your Island Security Blanket

First Class Villa Services, owned by Nils Janssen, was built on the understanding that your second home should feel like a priority, not a problem. They provide a comprehensive shield for your property, ensuring that whether you are absent for months or just away for a weekend, your villa remains safe, sound, and stunning.

Their approach is proactive rather than reactive. It covers every angle of homeownership:

Security & Supervision: Regular, professional inspections ensure that a broken window or a gate left ajar is dealt with immediately, deterring unwelcome guests and preventing small issues from becoming costly disasters.

Maintenance & Curb Appeal: From keeping your pool water chemically balanced and crystal clear to ensuring your garden doesn’t resemble a wild landscape, they maintain the kerb appeal and functionality of your home. They also handle the “small maintenance” tasks – the dripping tap or the worn seal -that can cause major damage if ignored.

Concierge & Project Management: Arriving to a spotless, hygienic villa after a late flight transforms your holiday start from stressful to serene. Furthermore, if you are considering renovations or upgrades, they can manage those projects from start to finish, liaising with local contractors so you don’t have to.

Arrival Preparation: Enjoy the delight of walking into a fresh, welcoming home. The team ensures your villa is spotless, beds are made with fresh sheets, and outdoor terraces are cleaned and ready for you to relax, so your holiday begins the moment you step through the door.

The Peace of Mind Portal

What truly sets a professional service apart is transparency. First Class Villa Services offers an exclusive client portal where you can access logs of all activities and maintenance records. You are not left guessing if a check-up occurred; you can see the proof, putting your mind completely at ease.

Beyond Maintenance: Your Partner in Property

Furthermore, their intimate knowledge of Lanzarote’s property market means they are an invaluable resource for buyers and sellers. They offer support and insights that go beyond simple maintenance, helping you navigate the logistics of owning or trading property on the island.

Why spend your time worrying about the “what ifs” from afar? Your villa is your haven. Ensure it is treated with the care and attention it deserves. Schedule a consultation with First Class Villa Services today and give yourself the freedom to enjoy Lanzarote, whether you are here or not.
