Monarch Airlines, one of the leading airlines connecting Lanzarote to the UK, went into administration in the early hours of this morning.
The UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has said that, for the next two weeks, it will provide flights home at no extra cost for all customers currently abroad. According to the CAA, these passengers will not need to cut their stay short.
However, the news is worse for those who have flights booked in the future. CAA chair, Dame Deirdre Hutton, said “I’m conscious that people who have booked holidays will be distressed … I’m afraid the harsh message is that they must not go to the airport, there will not be a flight for them.”
